Campsite Ruby Mnt CG, Arkansas Rec. Area.

Once October rolls around, we no longer need to have camping reservations 🙂   This was our first time camping in the Arkansas Headwater Rec. Area. Usually we pass through, on our way to other adventures. The campground was empty the entire trip, aside from some out of site hunters. Our site had a grand view of the Arkansas River which was just a stones throw away.

There are many miles of hiking trails behind the campsite, and the geological rock formations were incredible, and unexpected. We spent days exploring on and off trail.

We caught some rainbows next to the campground and at Hecla Junction. Next time we will fish at Hecla—it seemed like a good place to spend a day exploring with a rod. There is a campsite there, but it’s not a road that I’d want to take the Airstream on.

The hunters that were camped near us were impressed with Daisy—we’ve taught her to find antler sheds with the Dog Bone Hunter technique. She has a good nose, so when the hunters hid three old sheds Daisy found all of them without help! Impressive indeed 🙂  We did discover that a full Elk shed may be a bit to much for her to handle. lol

There is a nice pull out on 285 called Garufi Point. You can take some good photos of Mt. Princeton from there.
